The M24 “Chaffee” was the first truly practical and effective light tank to appear in World War II.
It was fast, reliable and had the firepower of the M4 Sherman medium tank.
However, it was not put into service until the end of the Second World War.
The two factories Cadillac and Massey Harris produced a total of 4,731 such tanks.
The US military made no changes to the M24 during World War II, but new tracks were introduced after the war.
When the Korean War broke out in 1950, the M24 was the only Allied tank stationed there.
This was the case until they received the heavier M4 and M26 tanks.
The French also used the M24 in the Indochina War and the Algerian War of Independence.
The M24 was also used in the 1971 conflict between Pakistan and India. D
The M24 only served in the US Army until 1953 and was then completely replaced by the new M41 “Bulldog” light tank.
The replaced M24s will be delivered by the United States to its friendly allies, including 28 countries, including Italy, Japan, Denmark, Norway, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Greece, Laos and South Vietnam.
