With around 50,000 units produced during World War II, the US Army's M4 Sherman tanks were one of the driving forces behind the Allied victory.
The M4 series was designed for efficient mass production and provided scope for future modifications.
Among the many variants produced, the early M4 featured a 60° square welded hull and a cast turret armed with a 75mm M3 cannon.
With a 350 hp air-cooled gasoline engine, VVS (Vertical Volute Spring) suspension and a 5-speed transmission, the M4 could reach top speeds of up to 38.6 km/h.
Production began in July 1942 and by January 1944 6748 units had been produced.
The first production run featured a distinctive three-piece, bolted gearbox housing.
The M4 Sherman saw service throughout Europe, including both the Normandy and Italian campaigns, and was the most widely produced U.S. tank in World War II.
