The G-6 was the most numerous variant built, with 13,000 aircraft built.
Responding to the advances in Allied aircraft, the Bf109 G aircraft featured the more powerful DB605 engine and, from the G-6 onwards, were equipped with two 13mm MG131 machine guns, which required the distinctive bulges on either side of the cockpit fairing, known as the "bulge."
The Bf109 G-6 saw action on both the Western and Eastern Fronts, dominating Soviet opponents in particular while remaining in service until the end of World War II.
