The American light bomber and ground combat aircraft A-20 Havoc and its Boston variant used by the Commonwealth were among the most important types of this category in the Second World War.
They were used in almost all theatres of operation.
To fulfil the role of low altitude ground attack, they were often modified to carry machine guns in the forward fuselage, which became known as gunships.
