So in August 1941 the 489th Squadron was formed from pilots from the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF).
DA's squadron received several Bristol Beaufort Mk.Is, which were used until the winter of 1942.
In late 1941, the South African Air Force (SAAF) received 18 Beaufort Mk.Is to protect the vital shipping routes around the Cape of Good Hope.
In the winter of 1942, two detachments were formed in the SAAF - the 36th and 37th Coastal Flight, to which these aircraft belonged.
They initially carried out patrol flights and later took part in combat missions against the French forces of the Vichy regime in the Madagascar region.
The Canadian Air Force (RCAF) also used the Beaufort BeaufortMk.I - these were the 415th and 149th. The Canadian Beauforts were used for patrol flights and anti-submarine warfare tasks until 1943.
