The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt undoubtedly plays a significant role in the history of military aviation.
The single-seat, low-wing fighter/fighter-bomber aircraft featured the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 twin radial engine of over 2,000 hp, which enabled it to reach considerable speeds, especially at high altitudes, and guaranteed exceptional operational flexibility.
The P-47 was effective both as a fighter to accompany bombers and as a lethal aircraft for ground support and attack missions.
Extremely robust in its airframe construction, it was heavily armed with eight 12.7 mm Browning M2 machine guns and could be equipped with bombs and rockets to increase its offensive capability.
From 1943 onwards it was successfully used by the United States on various fronts.
