The Messerschmitt P.1101 was put into service by OKL in the summer of 1944 and was the first aircraft in the world with variable wing geometry.
The Heinkel HeS 011 engine was actually supposed to be used, but the prototype was equipped with a Jumo 004 engine.
Before the prototype was completed in April 1945, the Americans occupied the Messerschmitt factory in Oberammergau and brought the prototype to the USA and developed a pattern for the Bell X-5 aircraft, which could change the wing angle in flight.
