The Cobras saw their first combat missions in Vietnam in 1967.
Early aircraft can be identified by the tail with the tail rotor mounted on the port side, later ones had the usual tail rotor configuration on the starboard side.
The AH-1G became the first member of a family of attack helicopters that are still in service today.
The G variant fought in the Vietnam War, served in the skies over the USA and Western Europe, and was also successfully exported abroad - G models flew in both Spain and Israel.
