The helicopter with the distinctive design was developed immediately after the Second World War and entered service with the US Army in the late 1940s.
Key features of the OH-13 Sioux were the "bubble roof", exposed tail boom (made of welded tubing), rigid skid landing gear and balloon-shaped fuel tanks.
The helicopter had a three-seat cabin configuration and could reach a top speed of 170 km/h.
It was both robust and exceptionally reliable.
During the Korean War, the OH-13 was used in a variety of ways and in large numbers, including for enemy observation, advanced reconnaissance and medical evacuation.
Even at the beginning of the Vietnam War, the Sioux was still in use as a reconnaissance helicopter.
