The F-15 Eagle was designed during the 1970s to provide the US Air Force with a more advanced and capable fighter aircraft.
From its airframe, the all-weather F-15E Strike Eagle two-seat fighter-bomber was developed.
Designed for missions such as ground attack, bombing and interception, it entered service with the USAF in the late 1980s.
It retained the features of the original F-15, such as the twin tails, the robust centre wing, and was also given a two-seat cockpit, in the rear of which the weapons systems officer was seated.
From this position, he selected the aircraft's routing, target tracking and electronic countermeasures.
The F15-E was used, for example, in Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the early 1990s.
