The Douglas DC3 first flew in 1935, followed by the military C47 in late 1941, shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
During World War II, the C47s became the backbone of Allied transport aviation.
After the Second World War, the C47 served as a supply aircraft for the Berlin Airlift and launched missions in the Arctic Circle.
During the Vietnam War, C47s were used as gunships, earning them the nickname “Puff the Magic Dragon.”
