The North-American P-51 Mustang is considered one of the most iconic aircraft in USAAF history.
It is also seen as probably the best single-seat piston engine fighter of World War II.
Thenew Allison V-1710 engine was very powerful and could reach a top speed of 400 mph.
It was armed with four winged 12.7mm Browning machine guns, which provided considerable firepower.
The capabilities of the Mustang would be further enhanced by the installation of two additional fuel tanks under the wings.
It was used in the US Army Air Force and by the British Royal Air Force (as the Mustang Mk.II).
