Zlín Z-212 Czechoslovakian Sport Aircraft

Jaroslav Lonek's first design for the Zlín Aviation Company was the two-seat, cantilever, low-wing Z-XII.
The first two prototypes flew in 1935 and participated in the Czechoslovak Republic's national flight that same year.
After extensive testing from March to July 1936, when the seventh aircraft produced flew 1,000 hours (140,000 km, 529 takeoffs), series production began.
The aircraft was produced with both closed and open cabins and was powered by a 45 hp Persy II engine. A total of 201 Z-XIIs and 58 Z-212s were produced.
The second prototype, OK-BTP, was equipped with a Walter Mikron inline engine and was therefore built as the Z-212.
These Z-XIIs were used by flying clubs, private companies, and as journalists' aircraft.
They also participated in many competitions and races. The greatest success was 7th place in the Oases Race, which pilot Major Ambruž achieved in competition with much more powerful aircraft.
The aircraft was exported worldwide.
During World War II, it was used by the Luftwaffe as a training aircraft, including in Slovakia and Hungary.
