In June 2023, 25 NATO member states gathered over Europe and carried out a joint exercise called “Air Defender” initiated by the Bundeswehr. 10,000 soldiers with a total of around 250 aircraft took part in the "largest air operations exercise since NATO's existence". In particular, an A400M and a Tornado stood out due to their colorful decoration, especially on the vertical tail.
