Produced by the American company Boeing since 1955, it has long been a symbol of the Cold War.
It has been the backbone of the US Air Force's Strategic Air Command for several decades.
The B-52 was produced in a significant number of versions, gradually evolving the successful project to better meet changing requirements.
The G version is the most commonly produced B-52 variant and was developed by the S.A.C. in service since the early 1960s.
It could be armed with the North American AGM-28 Hound Dog air-to-surface nuclear missile, which was part of the US nuclear arsenal until the mid-1970s.
This was developed in the middle of the “Cold War” to carry out nuclear attacks on priority land targets such as air and missile bases
