The JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) program was launched to develop a new fifth-generation multi-role fighter jet capable of being a valid alternative to ground attack aircraft of the United States and NATO countries. This project gave rise to the single-seat Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II aircraft. Equipped with exceptional technology, it is characterized by the use of an aerodynamic configuration with stealth characteristics and a trapezoidal wing. Designed for air superiority missions, close support and ground attack, its fuselage can be adapted in various configurations. The F-35A operates from conventional runways, the F-35B was designed for vertical takeoff and landing, and the F-35C is ideally suited for use from conventional aircraft carriers. The F-35C is particularly distinguished by its folding wing tips to optimize on-board storage, an arresting hook and a reinforced nose gear suitable for catapult launches from the US Navy's aircraft carriers.
