It represented the pinnacle of piston-engined fighter development.
Introduced after the end of World War II, the Sea Fury saw action in the Korean War against some of the first jet fighters, where it performed extremely well.
The first deck-landing trials took place in 1946.
The Sea Fury remained the Fleet Air Arm's main single-seat fighter until 1953, when it was replaced by the jet-powered Hawker Sea Hawk.
The aircraft also saw service with a number of overseas air forces, including as a fighter, trainer and high-speed target tug.
The aircraft also became very popular in the world of air racing, where its brute power and sheer speed saw it win countless competitions.
