The Panavia Tornado, a joint project of the German, British, and Italian aviation industries, revolutionized military aviation in the 1970s. Its innovative swing-wing design enabled the combination of short takeoff capability, high subsonic low-level speed, and efficient cruise characteristics for the first time. The IDS (Interdiction/Strike) variant was specifically developed for air-to-ground attacks, while the British GR.1 was designed as a multi-role variant.
