Easily recognizable by its distinctive appearance, characterized by the high-positioned cockpit, the Wessex was manufactured under license by British Westland.
It was based on the American helicopter Sikorsky S-58 "Choctaw" which was equipped with a British 1200 HP Rolls-Royce turbine engine.
The Wessex has demonstrated exceptional longevity.
It was used by the British Royal Navy for almost three decades to carry out many operational tasks in its various versions.
The Wessex UH.5 was one of the last versions of the helicopter and was used in the South Atlantic during the Falklands War in 1982.
This specialized in carrying out tactical transport flights of artillery, ammunition and rocket systems.
Thanks to its reliability, the Wessex UH.5 was also used for more demanding tasks: such as transporting Royal Marines Commandos during assault and infiltration operations.
