It was originally developed for the needs of the US Air Force to create a modern and effective single-seat fighter aircraft for air superiority.
The Polish Peace Sky program, launched in April 2003, includes 36 F-16Cs and 12 F-16Ds, all powered by Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 engines.
Poland was thus the first former Warsaw Pact member to use the F-16.
Poland's F-16s are considered the most modern in NATO.
Features of the Block 52+ include an AN/APG-68(V) 9 radar fire control system (AIDEWS), JHMCS capable of firing AIM-9X, AIM-120C, AGM-154 and various precision weapons.
Coupled with the Sniper XR (AAQ-32) Extended Range pod, an advanced targeting pod.
The pod provides superior target tracking performance and reliability.
The Polish Air Force also uses the Conformal Fuel Tank (CFT) to extend the operational range.
