The tiny Folland Gnat was originally designed as a lightweight and affordable jet fighter, but was later widely used by the Royal Air Force as a modern jet fighter trainer aircraft.
The Gnat entered RAF service in 1959 and was responsible for training many hundreds of future jet fighter pilots during its 20 years of service.
