The Bristol Type 142, later called the Blenheim, was ordered straight from the drawing board in 1935 and was a very advanced aircraft for its time, but by the outbreak of World War II it was overtaken by fighter development. Used on all the major fronts of World War II, the Blenheim was used extensively by the RAF as both a light bomber and fighter before being phased out in 1943 and replaced by more modern types that were less vulnerable to enemy fighters.
