This is the D variant of the well-known Corsair from the Second World War.
This fighter-bomber could carry drop tanks at new attachment points under the wing root and up to 8 rockets under the outer wing.
It provided valuable air support to ground troops during landings in the Philippines and Okinawa and was also used in Korea after the Second World War.
F4U-1D Specific differences in detail compared to earlier variants:
- The cockpit canopy was modified during production to improve visibility
- The propeller blades were thicker at the root
- Attachment points under the wing root made it possible to carry bombs and drop tanks
- The tail wheel cover had a new fairing to improve aerodynamics
- The outer wing sections had mounts for a total of eight missiles
- The window in the cockpit floor was removed
