Work on the aircraft under the direction of engineer František Novotný began on behalf of MNO on May 22, 1936.
It was an elegant self-supporting low-wing monoplane with a slender elliptical wing of mixed construction with very modern shapes. The first B-35.1 prototype was flown by Avia chief pilot Rudolf Dalecki at the time of mobilization on September 28, 1938.
It differed from the project by a provisional fixed canopy landing gear (the development of the landing gear was delayed), a weaker Avia HS 12Ydrs engine with a power of 860 hp instead of the considered Avia 12Y-1000 type with a power of 1000 hp and also a two-bladed wooden propeller.
Already in this form, the test pilots' impressions of the new type were very positive and the aircraft reached a speed of up to 485 km/h.
By the time of the occupation, only two prototypes were built (the prototype B-35.1 was lost in an accident on November 22, 1938, and the B-35.2 flown on December 30, 1938 differed only in details).
Czechoslovakia ordered the first ten-unit series in early 1939, but the German occupation prevented the aircraft from being delivered.
