The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is a Luftwaffe symbol of the German Air Force. This aircraft belonged to the first generation of high speed fighters of the 1930's and later versions were produced until the end of World War II.
The Bf 109E modification appeared in 1938. Bf 109E-3 became the first mass-produced German fighter. They took part in Polish, Norwegian and French campaigns in 1939-1940. Bf 109E-4 fighters entered service during the Battle of Britain (August-October 1940). The main difference was the new top with an armored windshield. Bf 109E-7/Trop had special tropical equipment.
The Bf 109E took part in dogfights over the Balkans, North Africa and on the Soviet-German front in 1941.
