In 1944, the Henschel company offered the RLM a project for a single-seat, fast dive bomber with a jet engine.
The RLM accepted the project - the Junkers Ju 87 type was no longer suitable, but an aircraft of this category was still needed - and in May 1944 commissioned the design of the aircraft and the construction of six prototypes.
