The Ju-88 of the A-5 modification, which appeared in the spring of 1940, began to enter the Luftwaffe bomber squadrons by the beginning of the Battle of England. It was this version of the Ju-88 bomber that formed the basis of the German air fleets during the German attack on the USSR in June 1941. Ju-88 A-17 was a specialized torpedo bomber. The Germans used such vehicles to attack Arctic convoys heading to the USSR. In particular, the infamous convoy PQ-17 was completely destroyed by the joint efforts of dive bombers, torpedo bombers and submarines.
