The Caproni Ca.311 was a light bomber reconnaissance aircraft, and was based on the prototype of the commercial aircraft Ca.306 from 1935.
It was a direct development of the Ca.310 bomber.
Like other related types, it was a cantilever low-wing aircraft of conventional construction.
The aircraft had the retractable main landing gear of the Ca.310 and a heavily glazed nose, as had already been tested on the prototype Ca.310bis.
Among the innovations were the relocation of the rear turret to a position directly behind the cockpit and additional glazing of the entire fuselage.
In the M version, the glazing was partially removed.
