It was first introduced into the Soviet Air Force in 1965. The Mi-2 is mainly used by former Soviet and Eastern Bloc countries. Most of the armed Mi-2 variants were used by Poland. Some were also used by the GDR. The Mi-2 URP is the anti-tank variant of this helicopter and was equipped with a fixed 23 mm NS-23 cannon and four AT-3 Sagger wire-guided missiles on external weapon mounts (4 more in the cargo compartment). Optionally, a 7.62 mm PK machine gun could be installed on a window.
