The Grumman Corporation developed and constructed the A-6A based on U.S. Navy specifications, a twin-engine all-weather fighter aircraft capable of operating from American aircraft carriers.
The “Intruder” was characterized by a stable and robust fuselage and two side-by-side seats for the pilot and the weapons officer.
The A-6E was the final attack version of the Intruder, improved in avionics and attack systems, particularly in the version called TRAM, derived from the Laser Target Designation System acronym, which allowed for more effective performance in all weather conditions.
The Intruder was capable of loading impressive offensive armament such as conventional bombs, laser-guided Paveway bombs, Harpoon anti-ship missiles and HARM anti-radar missiles.
