The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, swing-wing fighter aircraft developed for the United States Navy and deployed from 1974.
Its primary roles in the US Navy were as an air superiority fighter, reconnaissance aircraft and fleet defense.
The Tomcat F-14D was a modernized version of the aircraft that was in service until the Tomcat was retired in 2006.
It had improved engines in the form of the General Electric F110 and digital modernizations of the radar and fire control systems.
Some F-14Ds were built from scratch, but there were also conversions from the F-14A.
