In the early years of the Second World War, French soldiers wore the khaki field uniform M1920/3 5, issued from 1935, and many soldiers also wore an M1938 coat.
Non-commissioned officers were issued with the M1932 coat and leather gaiters.
Outside of combat, all ranks wore the kepi.
