In the middle years of the Second World War, most German Wehrmacht soldiers were issued with a field grey M36 uniform with a green collar, although some also wore the M40 with a field grey collar.
The uniform was rounded off with a helmet or cap, stock boots and braces.
Accessories such as bags, water bottle, shovel, etc. were usually carried, while armament depended on rank:
Enlisted men carried the Kar98k rifle or the MG34 machine gun, while non-commissioned officers used the MP40 submachine gun.
Officers and machine-gunners often carried a pistol for self-defence.
