The Iveco UVT 4x4 gl (Unprotected Wounded Transporter, Off-Road) is a new, off-road medical vehicle for the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) and replaces older models such as the Wolf KrKw and the Unimog 2t KrKw. It is based on the Iveco Eurocargo ML 150 E 28 WS 4x4. At approximately 7 meters long, 2.55 meters wide, and over 3 meters high, the vehicle offers considerably more space and robustness, especially for its medical role.
The medical version of the UVT is designed for the qualified transport of wounded. The fully equipped patient cabin corresponds to a civilian Class C ambulance and includes, among other things, a fully electric stretcher table (up to 200 kg), a Stryker stretcher, an ECG, a ventilator, a defibrillator, and a portable ultrasound scanner. Two lying or four sitting patients can be cared for and transported simultaneously.
The 280 hp six-cylinder diesel engine, combined with all-wheel drive, all-terrain chassis, and a fording capability of up to 1.2 meters, ensures high mobility – even off-road. This allows the vehicle to quickly rescue wounded soldiers from danger, even under difficult terrain.
Around 500 of these modern UVT vehicles are scheduled to be delivered to the troops by 2027. They will particularly enhance initial care and the protected transport of wounded personnel in high-threat operational scenarios, without sacrificing the flexibility and deployability of lighter platforms.
