Volume 80 of the aircraft booklet series "Monographs" presents in detail all technical and structural elements of the Soviet MiG-3 fighter plane from World War II. In addition to all technical matters, the reader will also find extensive explanations on the use of this aircraft in the fight against the Germans on the Eastern Front.
The MiG-3 combat aircraft, as well as the history of the creation of the Mikoyan and Gurevich design bureau, is relatively well known to anyone interested in the history of Soviet aviation. Many books and articles have been published about this machine, but the information about the circumstances of the creation of the project and the terms of its development is very brief and concise. MiG-1 and MiG-3 were the most numerous new generation fighters in Soviet aviation at the time of the German invasion of the USSR. They played a very important role in the first phase of the war. So far it has been assumed in the literature that this applies primarily to the use of these aircraft during the Battle of Moscow and in the air defense of the capital and Leningrad, but the MiGs also assumed a large weight in air combat in 1941 at the various sectors of the German- soviet front.
