During the Second World War, German submarines often landed on threatening shores for operational reasons. Landings found e.g. for espionage reasons on the coasts of countries such as Ireland, Spain and the USA, but also on the North African coast to support Rommel's Africa Corps. Mallmann-Showell documents many of these difficult and special submarine missions. He goes into the submarine bases and bunker systems that he has visited in Germany, France and Norway, shows their strategic importance and explains how and why these systems were built.
