Mr. Bose's narratives begin with his entry into the 3rd Battery of Stug 177 at the start of Operation Zitadelle. The following is a chronological and vivid description of how attacks went, what problems the units and especially the crews of the assault guns had to deal with, what it's like to have to disembark and to see how comrades in the neighboring tank are fatally hit. Nothing is glossed over here, although here and there one gets the impression that the Russian was all too easy cannon fodder for the Sturg guns. In any case, one can only wish to never come into such a situation and one has learned from the past.
It's also interesting when you get to read how the soldiers treated each other, what camaraderie means but also dealing with superiors and their procedures, especially in critical situations.
Georg Bose is with his unit in the central section of the eastern front and describes the operations e.g. at Wittebs, Newel, Wilna, Prinsk, etc. until he is transferred to Panzerjäger Battalion 69. He was awarded the Knight's Cross there and went to Hungary. There it then goes around Szentgiörgy, Csakany, Budapest, Many, Csabdi and the Sio Canal up to his admission to the hospital in Bruck, his trip to Pisek, where he then became a prisoner of war.
