Tank tactics - German operational principles 1935 until today
Illustrated book about the tactics of the German armored forces. Many authors have already tried to find out how the legendary successes of the German tank weapon in World War II came about. Again and again there is talk of great military leaders, superior technology and ... better tactics. But what is special about German tank tactics is usually only described very vaguely. This is different in the present work. The author Wolfgang Schneider, himself a long-time tank commander in the Bundeswehr up to the brigade level, has documented the operational principles of the German tank weapon in twelve chapters after evaluating all German tactical regulations since 1935, an extensive literature research and numerous conversations with soldiers. He goes into the types of combat (attack, defense, holding out combat) and the other tasks in combat (including reconnaissance, security, march) as well as elements that are decisive for combat such as logistics, interaction with other weapons, leadership and the like. Finally, the life of the crew in and with the tank is illuminated with insider knowledge. The modern age, i.e. the experiences in the Bundeswehr, also takes up a lot of space. The historical image material is not only of interest to the historian, mostly photos from private collections, which only really illustrate the written word.
