The Object 279 was a Soviet experimental heavy tank developed in the late 1950s. This special tank was intended to be used as a heavy breakthrough tank for fighting in difficult terrain that was inaccessible to conventional tanks. The hull was specially shaped to withstand nuclear weapon explosions in close proximity.
