The LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle and Personnel) was developed by Higgins Industries in New Orleans based on a flatboat used in the swamps of Louisiana and participated in all the major amphibious operations of World War II in Europe and the Pacific.
It was tasked with shuttling between the big ships and the beaches, carrying up to thirty men, light vehicles, and whatever else was needed.
It was usually armed with two rear machine guns and powered by a 250 horsepower Hall-Scott gasoline engine or a 225 horsepower Gray-'Diesel engine.
After the end of World War II, the LCVP remained in service and was used in a variety of roles.
It saw action in Korea and Indochina and was also converted for civilian use around the world.
