The United Kingdom deploys all of its nuclear deterrent weapons on its Avangard-class strategic nuclear submarines.
Each submarine can be equipped with 16 D5 “Trident” submarine-launched ballistic missiles.
Each missile can carry 4 to 6 nuclear warheads, with a maximum range of 12,000 kilometers.
This class of boat was built by Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd, Barrow-in-Furness, United Kingdom.
The boat class is coated with anti-reflective materials that reduce noise.
With a teardrop-shaped design, the length-to-width ratio of the boat is 11.7.
The hull structure is a mix of single and double hull, which has a positive effect on reducing hull drag and improving propulsion efficiency.
The hull has a smooth shape and low sailing resistance. There are six cabins arranged in the boat, including the bow torpedo cabin, the command cabin, the missile cabin, the auxiliary engine room, the reactor cabin and the main engine room.
The first boat "Vanguard" was commissioned in August 1993, the second boat "Vigilance" was commissioned in January 1995, the third boat "Vigilance" was commissioned in November 1996 and the fourth boat "Vengeance" was commissioned in November 1999
