The Chuyo was one of five escort aircraft carriers of the Imperial Japanese Navy, which were used in World War II.
She belonged with the Taiyo and the Un'yo to the Taiyo class, which consisted of converted combined freighters, here the Nitta Maru.
She was sunk by an American submarine on December 4, 1943.
