The special submarine carrier "Nissin" was originally designed as a minelayer.

It was later converted to a seaplane carrier and finally completed as a target carrier. However, in its actual operational mission, it was responsible for a very dangerous mission as an armed high-speed transport ship and was sunk off the coast of the island of Bougainville by bombing raids by enemy aircraft.
