H.M.S. Ark Royal was launched on 13 April 1937 at Cammel Laird's Birkenhead shipyard and was involved in the sinking of the German battleship Bismarck.
She was later torpedoed by the German submarine U-81.
She sank at 06:13 on 14 November 1941 with the loss of only one sailor.
