The Chinese Navy's aircraft carrier Shandong is an improved version of the previous class aircraft carrier Liaoning.
The Shandong's flight deck is of the ski jump type, like that of the Liaoning.
While the Liaoning could carry about 24 J-15 fighter aircraft, the Shandong is capable of carrying about 32 to 36 aircraft.
The number rises to 50 to 70 when rotary-wing aircraft are included.
