The Golden Hind was an English galleon best known for her circumnavigation of the globe between 1577 and 1580.
Captained by Sir Francis Drake, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth upon his return with a cargo of Spanish gold and other treasures. The Hind was a well-armed and maneuverable galleon.
She was originally commissioned as The Pelican and built in Deptford, London, where she was launched in 1577.
She was the flagship of an expedition to explore the regions beyond South America under the command of Drake and with personnel assistance from Queen Elizabeth of England.
Drake's mission became less of an exploration mission and more of a piracy mission as he massively disrupted Spanish interests in the region.
