With the establishment of units and schools of the main department "Border Police and Emergency Units" ordered in October 1948, the question of the material equipment of these units arose. For their initial equipment, the GDR government bought a wide variety of armored tractors and tracked vehicles from the USSR. After the NVA was established, many new developments and vehicles were added.

This booklet describes on 48 pages the various armored tractors and tracked vehicles introduced into the NVA over the decades, such as the "Edith" ammunition tractor, the MT-LB multi-purpose transport tractor in its sub-variants for the NVA, the border troops and other special conversions.
