The AMX "Ghibli" single-engine ground attack aircraft is the result of collaboration between the Italian and Brazilian aircraft industries.
The project was launched in the 1980s to replace the outdated Fiat G-91Y fighter-bombers in the Italian Air Force squadrons.
Added to this necessity was the need of Brazilian aviation to replace the MB-326.
The AMX has an aerodynamic layout characterized by the high swept wing configuration and can reach a top speed of 1,000 km/h thanks to its Rolls-Royce Spey 807 engine.
In its Italian version it is equipped with an M61 Vulcan 20 mm cannon and can carry 3800 kg of offensive armament.
The Ghibli was also used in various operational areas (Afghanistan, Libya) to carry out reconnaissance missions and to provide close tactical support to ground forces.
