It was developed after Operation Peace for Galilee.
The IDF decided to improve the Magach 6B FCS by replacing the M17 rangefinder and M13 ballistic computer with the more modern GAL fire control system.
The installation of a new periticle scope required the construction of a new and larger tank hull, which was mounted in front of the commander's cupola.
A crosswind sensor mast was mounted on the rear left of the turret roof.
The 105 mm main gun was fitted with a thermal cover.
These modifications improved the Magach's firing accuracy.
The improved firing accuracy and excellent additional armor gave the Magach 6B GAL the same combat effectiveness as the latest main battle tanks at the time.
This tank served in parallel with the Merkava series tanks for many years.
