The Messerschmitt heavy twin-engine multi-role fighter was used extensively by the German Luftwaffe during the war and in its various versions fulfilled various operational roles: interceptor, fighter-bomber, reconnaissance aircraft, anti-ship aircraft and night fighter.
The two Daimler-Benz DB 601 engines with an output of 1200 hp enabled the heavy fighter to reach a top speed of 560 km/h.
Versions C and D were used on all fronts in the early stages of the war.
Heavily armed with two 20 mm cannons, four 7.92 mm machine guns and a rear machine gun for self-defense, it could carry bombs or additional fuel tanks under the wings to increase its operational range.
